Add GetFoxChat to your Zendesk Help Center site
Paste the snippet at the end of the footer.hbs template in your help center theme, which is used on every help center page. The line loads the GetFoxChat chat bubble on every page, and the operator behind it answers your visitors from your own public pages.
The line to add
Yours has your own site ID in place of YOUR_SITE_ID.
<script src="https://getfoxchat.com/widget.js" data-site-id="YOUR_SITE_ID" defer></script>
Add GetFoxChat to Zendesk Help Center, step by step
- In GetFoxChat, open the install step for your site and copy your snippet. It already has your site ID in it. No account yet? Create one free.
- In Knowledge admin, click Customize design in the sidebar. source
- Click Customize on the theme you want to edit (your live theme). source
- Click Edit code. source
- In the Templates section, click footer.hbs. It opens in the code editor. source
- Paste the snippet on a new line at the very end of the file. source
- Click Save in the top right corner. source
- Back in GetFoxChat, press Check my site. The chat switches on once GetFoxChat finds the snippet on your live pages.
Zendesk Help Center's own guide: Zendesk help: customizing your help center theme. Checked 2026-09-30; if Zendesk Help Center renames a menu, its guide has the current wording.
Zendesk Help Center gotchas
- Once you edit a theme's code, Zendesk treats it as a custom theme, and it no longer receives automatic updates and new features. source
- The theme preview is for look and feel only and may not run interactive features, so check the chat on your live help center. source
- Trial accounts get the Professional plan with code editing, but lose it if they buy Suite Team. source
Removing it later
Go to Customize design, Customize, Edit code, open footer.hbs, delete the GetFoxChat line and click Save.
Zendesk documents both a Document head template and a Footer template (footer.hbs); footer.hbs is the better fit because it renders at the bottom of every help center page. The Document head template would also work because the snippet uses defer. Zendesk does not say footer.hbs output sits immediately before </body>, so the where line says end of footer.hbs rather than before </body>. The article names the admin area Knowledge admin (formerly Guide admin). This page does not describe what happens when you edit a theme that is not live (setting it live is covered elsewhere), so step 2 tells the reader to pick the live theme; that wording is ours.
