What the chat operator does on your Shopify store
- It learns your store from its public pages: product pages, collections, your shipping and returns policies, FAQ and blog pages. It finds them through your sitemap and the links on your homepage.
- It answers shoppers in a chat bubble on every page, from what those pages say. Shoppers ask things like:
“Does this come in a larger size?”“How long does shipping to Canada take?”“Can I return this if it doesn't fit?”
- It points to the page that has the answer, and when that link is on the page the visitor is looking at, it highlights it.
- Asked how to reach you, it gives the phone number, email or contact page from your own pages.
- When your pages don't have the answer, it says so and passes the conversation to you instead of guessing.
- Asked whether it is a person, it says it is an AI assistant.
- You give it the name and avatar you like; your shoppers see that name, not ours.
It answers from your public pages. It does not look up a shopper's order, cart or account; when a shopper needs that, it hands the conversation to you.
See it on your Shopify store first
Type your store's address. GetFoxChat reads your public pages and opens a preview of the operator answering from them. No account, nothing to install.

Put it on your Shopify store: about two minutes
It is one line of code that goes on every page. The snippet goes in your theme's theme.liquid file, so the bubble shows on every storefront page that uses that theme.
Before you start: You need the store owner account, or staff access to Themes.
- Create your free GetFoxChat account at getfoxchat.com/register and add your Shopify store's address. The install step shows your snippet with your site ID already in it, and a Copy button.
- In your Shopify admin, click Online Store (under Sales channels), then Themes.
- Next to your current theme, click the "…" button, then Edit code.
- In the file list on the left, under Layout, click theme.liquid.
- Find the line </body> near the bottom (press Ctrl+F or ⌘+F and type </body>).
- Paste the snippet on a new line just above </body>.
- Click Save (top right).
- Back in GetFoxChat, press Check my site. The chat switches on once GetFoxChat finds the snippet on your store.
If you switch to a different theme later, add the snippet to that theme too.
