Add GetFoxChat to your PrestaShop site

The line to add

Yours has your own site ID in place of YOUR_SITE_ID.

On PrestaShop, this is what goes in themes/<your theme>/assets/js/custom.js:

Add GetFoxChat to PrestaShop, step by step

1. In GetFoxChat, open the install step for your site and copy your snippet. It already has your site ID in it. No account yet? Create one free.
2. Open your active theme's folder on the server (themes, then your theme name) and find assets/js/custom.js. source
3. Paste the GetFoxChat loader lines (shown on this page) at the end of custom.js, with your own site ID in place of the placeholder, and save the file. source
4. In the back office, go to Advanced Parameters, then Performance. source
5. Click the Clear cache button at the top of the page. source
6. Open your shop in a new tab and check that the chat bubble shows.
7. Back in GetFoxChat, press Check my site. The chat switches on once GetFoxChat finds the snippet on your live pages.

PrestaShop gotchas

• custom.js is JavaScript, not HTML, so the plain script tag will not work there; use the short loader that creates the tag. source
• If Smart cache for JavaScript is on, PrestaShop combines scripts into one cached file; clear the cache after the edit and test the shop. source
• Editing a theme you did not build can be undone by a theme update. A child theme keeps your change while the parent theme updates. source

Removing it later

Delete the GetFoxChat loader lines from the theme's assets/js/custom.js, save, then go to Advanced Parameters, Performance and click Clear cache.

Applies to PrestaShop 8 and 9 with the Classic theme or any theme that ships the standard custom.js. The exact path assets/js/custom.js inside the theme folder is standard for the Classic theme but is not quoted in the docs fetched. theme.yml can also register a remote script on all pages, but its attribute option only accepts async or defer, so it cannot carry data-site-id; that is why the loader is used. This file holds JavaScript, not HTML, so it gets a short loader that adds the same script tag with your site ID once the page has loaded.
